Juicing with Young Kids
Posted February 20th, 2012As your children get older, their likes and dislikes of foods will change dramatically. What your little one wouldn’t touch, he may now be asking for every minute. Children cannot live on a juicing diet consisting of only sweet fruits, but can certainly receive their vital nutrients from a supplemental juicing diet.
Children this age don’t tire of repetition. The variety you may think they want in their life is untrue. Once they find a juicing recipe they love, they will want it round-the-clock for the next few months. One option for juicing is to serve your kids everything you consume from your juice extractor. The only difference you may want to consider is diluting the juice slightly. This will not only help ease new flavors in, but will also be gentler on their stomachs until they get accustomed to a juicing diet.
Branching out of the sweeter fruits from the toddler juicing years into more bold flavors such as dark leafy greens with a mixture of carrot or citrus flavors will be perfect for a child who is experimenting with their flavors. It will also help with incorporating ample amounts of iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium and vitamins K, C, E and B.
Recipe
2 apples
2 pears
1 tomato
1 carrot
1 cup dark leafy greens
1 cup water
Using your juice extractor, slowly feed the apples and pears through the spout. Add the tomato, carrot, and greens. Pour the water, through the spout to dilute the juice. Serve cold or try freezing for juicer-pops.
