Juicing Superfoods Part 3: Fruits and Nuts

Posted January 29th, 2012

Juicing Superfoods with Best JuicerJuicing with superfoods that fall in the fruits and nuts categories will add amazing amounts of anti-oxidants to any diet that is likely lacking. These anti-oxidants fight free radicals that damage our body in the form of pollutants, radiation, and even fried foods. Juicing recipes that contain fruit and nut superfoods are prime ways to increase your daily intake of anti-oxidants and fight off illness and aging.

Goji Berries grow on vines and are rich sources of vitamin A, C, B1, B2, B6 and E. Even for those who take daily multivitamin, there is still typically a lacking in vitamin A and B. Juicing goji berries will make up for these harder to find vitamins.

Acai berries are common in South America. They have a tropical flavor and have health benefits similar to red wine due to their levels of anthocyanins. Try to purchase fresh or be sure to find frozen varieties that have not been pasteurized.

Noni is a fruit in which research has proven to help fight bacteria. Noni has anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. On top of that, it also contains a mix of vitamins and nutrients that assist with skin disorders, headaches and infections.

Nuts may seem “unjuiceable” by nature, but they are easier than you think. Almonds, walnuts and cashews are favorites for juicing and can be added to any recipe to increase protein intake.  To juice nuts, simply soak them in warm water for 1 hour. When juicing, alternate between your fruits, vegetables and nuts. If you want a nuttier flavor, juice the nuts, then adding the pulp to ¼ cup of water, juice again.

Nuts and Berries
1 cup dried goji berries, soaked for 1 hour in water
1 cup dried acai berries, soaked for 1 hour in water
½ cup almonds
½ cup water

Using your juice, alternate between the berries and nuts. Remove the pulp and stir into the ½ cup water. Slowly pour the pulp mixture through the juicer. This recipe can be easily sweetened with a Honeycrisp or other sweet apple.
