Heart Healthy Juicing
Posted February 28th, 2012Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in North America today. In fact, heart-disease is the cause of almost one-third of all deaths in the United States. The factors that contribute to this debilitating disease include stress, smoking and high fat diets. All factors that can and should be avoided. High fat diets are simple to alter with the introduction of a juicing diet. Juicing is a way to ensure you receive all the vitamins and nutrients that fruits and vegetables (among other ingredients) can bring to your body. Whether as a supplement to your diet or a major player, using a juicer and effective juicing recipes may be the smartest health habit you can implement this year.
Some ingredients contain the vital nutrients needed for a healthy heart. Concentrating on these juicing ingredients can not only boost your heart health, but can increase energy, skin health, eye health, and many other ailments. Vitamin C, one of the most essential vitamins, helps create and maintain collagen, which helps arteries expand, contract and allow for blood flow. Fruits that are high in vitamin C that are perfect for juicing recipes are peppers, guavas, herbs, leafy greens, broccoli, kiwi, papaya, oranges and strawberries.
Vitamin E is also essential to a health heart in that it helps prevent damage to artery walls as well as promoting the repair of artery walls. Finding juicer recipes that contain apples and kiwi will help to increase your daily input of vitamin E.
Other essential nutrients to heart health include magnesium (kiwi, berries, spinach, kale and broccoli), calcium (orange, kale, spinach, parsley), potassium (oranges, spinach, tomatoes) and vitamin B-6 (watermelon, carrots). Using a mixture of these ingredients in your juicer is a perfect way to get on the road to a healthy heart.
